What this asks of us
Paul turns freedom outward: toward love of neighbor. King describes a life he hoped would be remembered not merely for achievement, but for trying to love. Community service begins in the same place. We do not need to solve every problem or become the hero of someone else's story. We can listen, learn what is useful, and offer a dependable act of care. Small service can grow into deeper involvement when it is rooted in humility and follow-through.

Choose one step you can take with sincerity. Faithfulness grows through practices we can actually keep.
Ask before acting, respect privacy, complete required screening or training, and choose a commitment you can keep.

Check on a neighbor, thank a community worker, or ask a local pantry what item it currently needs.

Give one scheduled hour
Contact a library, school, shelter, food pantry, senior center, cleanup group, or church outreach and ask what a new volunteer can do.

Build toward consistency
If the first experience fits, choose a realistic monthly or weekly commitment and let the organization guide you toward its actual priorities.
A SIMPLE PRAYER
God of love, open my eyes to my neighbors. Teach me to listen before acting, serve without seeking praise, and become dependable in the good I am able to do. Amen.
